Michael J. Simon, CFA
Robert and Michael worked together at LKCM in the 1990s and, after keeping in touch over
the years, decided to team up. Michael joined HCP as a partner in 2016.
Michael is also Principal of Simon Venture Development, which provides strategic capital
consulting to entrepreneurial companies and investors in early-stage private businesses.
Michael is a seasoned value investor. Between 2001 and 2010, he served as Senior Portfolio
Manager and Global Partner with Invesco, where he was a leader of the top-performing
value equity team. His focus was performing deep fundamental company analysis to identify
undervalued investment opportunities. With a specialty in financial services, he was
regularly asked to provide financial sector perspectives to such groups as the JP Morgan
Bank CEO Conference, Bank of America’s senior leadership team, and the FASB Strategic
Focus Group.
At LKCM from 1996 until 2001, Michael was an Equity Analyst supporting investment decisions in the financial and consumer staples sectors. He started his career in 1989 as a management trainee in the finance department of First Commercial Corporation before becoming an Investment Officer with First Commercial Capital Management and then an Equity Manager with the Trust Investment Group of Fourth Financial Corporation.
Michael serves on the Investment Committee of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. He serves as a trustee and chair of the Audit Committee for The Oberweis Funds. Michael is also interested in international relations and is active with the World Affairs Council of Houston and the Houston Committee on Foreign Relations. He is an executive volunteer for the Prison Entrepreneurship Program. Formerly, Michael served as Occasional Faculty in the Finance Department at Texas Christian University and as a Director and Chairman of the Audit Committee for Heads-Up Technologies, Inc.
Michael holds a Master in Business Administration from the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago where, having graduated with high honors, he is an Amy and Richard F. Wallman Scholar. He received a Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in finance from Texas Christian University.
Michael is a CFA charterholder and a member of the CFA Society of Houston.
